Project Description
BRANDING
In 2010, I had an idea about the panopticon, bought the best domain I could find (opticon.ca – I am linking to the archive, since I gave this domain to a friend in the drone business!) and sat on it until I developed a full-blown fascination with drone technology. I developed the logo for the website, inspired by the eye of a camera, a robot, an artificial intelligence.
WEB DEVELOPMENT
In 2014, I created a website (again the archive link, opticon.ca) designed to be a company directory, affiliate shopping site, and a drone news resource. I gave away the domain to some drone associates of mine, and I see that so far it is still the way I built it. In case they update, I’m including some screenshots.
WRITING & SEO
While I was working on it actively, I was regularly fielding phone calls, helping people get in touch with local drone operators, as the site was at the top of Google for [vancouver drone companies]. I attended drone events in Vancouver and I was even asked to do an interview for Business in Vancouver on the subject of drones, at that time, as my hobby / passion put me in the position of being in-the-know about the local drone business: https://biv.com/article/2015/08/peer-peer-drones-open-new-business-horizons
